History of Reno Airport

Hubbard Field Airport, named for Eddie Hubbard, a vice president at Boeing Air Transport and an early pioneer in air transportation, was constructed in 1929 by Boeing Transport Inc.

United Airlines bought the airport in 1936, and the city of Reno bought it from them in 1953. There were 15 daily departures listed in the OAG for August 1953, and by August 1963, there were 28.

The first terminal building was ready for the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley, California. It was in 1979 that the current ticketing lobby and concourses were constructed. In 1994, the airport was given its current name to recognize Reno and Lake Tahoe, major tourist attractions in the area.

Improvements to baggage screening technology and a sleek new ticket counter in a Tahoe motif were implemented in a project that began in 2008. Its construction ended in 2010.
